Hey Queens! Meet Kathy Butler | Comfort In The Storm
What’s the name of your business or organization? Comfort In The Storm
Why did you start your business or organization? Our organization was created approx 9 years ago after we learned that our daughter had been raped and molested by a family member. We quickly realized that most people didn’t want to talk about sexual abuse and there were few resources to tell parents how to try and prevent their child from becoming a victim, so we became the change we wanted to see and started our own organization.
How are you helping people with your business or organization? We conduct child sex abuse prevention and awareness training and we also provide peer support for families who have been impacted by the trauma child sex abuse.
What is the significance of your business or organization? We are unveiling the secrecy and shattering the silence around child sexual abuse. We are educating our communities in an effort to protect our children from the trauma of abuse and to end this epidemic. We are also creating a safe space for victims and their families by sharing our experience so they know they aren’t alone; what was done to them wasn’t their fault, and they don’t need to be ashamed.
What motivates you to continue in your business or organization? First and foremost, we know that this is the work that God purposed for us to do. Through the most painful experience for our child and for us, he birthed this work. We also recognize how important prevention and awareness education is if we are going to end the epidemic. And lastly, we understand that if we prevent just one child from experiencing the trauma of sexual abuse, we have made a difference in the world.
Do you have any upcoming events to share? We are working on scheduling now and will announce dates and locations as they are available. In the interim, follow us on our social media platforms for daily prevention and awareness tips.
